Delete Your Account

In Your Dreams · app.inyourdreams.android

You can ask us to delete your In Your Dreams account and the personal data attached to it. You do not need the app installed to make this request, and there is no charge.

If you are signed in to the app, you can also delete your account directly from Account → Delete my account. The form below does the same thing and is here for anyone who cannot reach that screen.

What gets deleted

Deleted permanently What it is
Your account Email address, password, display name, sign-in records
Your dream journal Every dream you saved, including the full text you wrote
Your interpretations All readings generated for you, and the dream images themselves, which are deleted from storage and not merely unlinked
Your personal symbol history The private record of symbols drawn from your own dreams
Subscription link Your customer and subscription references
Mailing list entry Your contact record is deleted from our email provider, removing you from all newsletters and product email

What we keep, and why

Anonymous Dreamometer™ contributions. If you chose to contribute to the public dream archive, those rows were stored without your name, your email, your account ID or your dream text. They carry no identifier of any kind that points back to you, only a random code that groups the symbols from a single dream together. Each row holds a symbol, the mood and feel you selected, a date, your country, and an approximate location taken from your network connection, accurate to roughly city level, which appears as a point on the public dream map. Because nothing in them can be traced back to a person, they stay in the public archive after your account is gone. This is the contribution you consented to, and it is what makes the archive possible.

Payment records. Australian tax law requires us to keep records of transactions for five years. These are held by our payment processor and contain the transaction, not your dreams.

Before you delete

  • Cancel your subscription first if you have one. Deleting the account does not automatically stop a recurring charge, and we cannot cancel it for you once your account is gone. If you subscribed in the Android app, the subscription belongs to your Google account and must be cancelled through Google Play, under Payments and subscriptions in the Play Store app. If you subscribed on the web, cancel through your account or email us.
  • Save anything you want to keep. Deleted journals cannot be recovered, by you or by us.
  • Unused credits and gift codes are forfeited.

How long it takes

Requests made from the app are actioned immediately. Requests made through this form are verified by email first, then actioned within 30 days, usually much sooner. Backups are overwritten on a rolling 90 day cycle, after which no copy remains.

One exception, stated plainly. Our server keeps short operational logs of what the service did while handling each request, and those can contain your email address in a shortened form such as n***@example.com. They do not contain your dream text. They are held by our hosting provider and deleted automatically within 30 days, so they are not removed by the deletion itself.

Request deletion

Enter the email address on the account. We will send a confirmation link to that address, so nobody can delete an account they do not own.

Prefer to email?

Write to [email protected] from the address on the account, with "Delete my account" in the subject line. We aim to respond within 14 days.
