Trees

Trees often appear when the psyche is tracking growth, rootedness, or the possibility of shelter—their health in the dream echoing the dreamer's felt sense of flourishing or withering. A felled tree or one climbed may ask whether ambition is aligned with care, or whether something vital has been severed too soon.

What the old dream-books say

These are the entries the historical dream-books record for trees, in their own words. They are period voices, not predictions, and they do not always agree with one another.

Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted

To dream of trees in new foliage, foretells a happy consummation of hopes and desires. Dead trees signal sorrow and loss.

To climb a tree is a sign of swift elevation and preferment.

To cut one down, or pull it up by the roots, denotes that you will waste your energies and wealth foolishly.

To see green tress newly felled, portends unhappiness coming unexpectedly upon scenes of enjoyment, or prosperity.

The Golden Wheel Dream-book

To dream of green and flourishing trees is an excellent omen, as it foretells riches—the larger the trees, the better the fortune: if you dream of climbing into a high tree, you will not only be rich, but will come to great distinction. If a girl should dream of seeing her lover up a tree, she will marry a wealthy and distinguished man.

Trees.—To dream you see trees in blossom denotes a happy marriage with the present object of your affections, and many children who will do extremely well in life; to the tradesman it denotes success in business. To dream you are climbing trees denotes that you will make a fortune, and rise to honors and dignities in the State. To dream you are cutting down trees foretells the death of a near relation or dear friend.
