Stockings

Stockings often touch pleasure from dissolute companionship, with unwise conduct hinted in ragged ones, though some read silk as poverty and cotton as moderate happiness. The dream may ask where loose, indulgent company is drawing you, and whether the intimate garment reflects a contentment or a recklessness worth a second look.

What the old dream-books say

These are the entries the historical dream-books record for stockings, in their own words. They are period voices, not predictions, and they do not always agree with one another.

Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted

To dream of stockings, denotes that you will derive pleasure from dissolute companionship.

For a young woman to see her stockings ragged, or worn, foretells that she will be guilty of unwise, if not immoral conduct. To dream that she puts on fancy stockings, she will be fond of the attention of men, and she should be careful to whom she shows preference. If white ones appear to be on her feet, she is threatened with woeful disappointment or illness.

The Golden Wheel Dream-book

To dream of cotton-stockings, foretells moderate happiness; of silk, poverty. To take them off, denotes the reception of money. Stockings with holes in them, signify the loss of property.
