Hug
An embrace, in older dream-lore, was rarely the comfort it seemed: to hold a spouse coldly foretold family dissension and threatened sickness, and even lovers embracing were warned of quarrels to come. The nearness masked a coming distance. Sometimes the dream asks whether the closeness you reach for is as steady as it looks.

These are the entries the historical dream-books record for hug, in their own words. They are period voices, not predictions, and they do not always agree with one another.
Fontaine, 1862
If a young girl dreams of being fondled and hugged by her lover, it is a sign he will soon get sick of her and want to be off: it is not half so bad to let him hug her in real earnest as it is to dream of it. The same sign holds good with the other sex.
