Fortune-telling

Fortune-telling often touches deliberation over a vexed matter and the wish to know an outcome in advance. The dream may ask what uncertain decision you're turning over, where you're tempted to seek answers from outside rather than your own counsel, and whether self-reliance, more than any prophecy, is what the choice actually requires.

What the old dream-books say

These are the entries the historical dream-books record for fortune-telling, in their own words. They are period voices, not predictions, and they do not always agree with one another.

Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted

To dream of telling, or having your fortune told, it dicates that you are deliberating over some vexed affair, and you should use much caution in giving consent to its consummation. For a young woman, this portends a choice

between two rivals. She will be worried to find out the standing of one in business and social circles. To dream that she is engaged to a fortune-teller, denotes that she has gone through the forest and picked the proverbial stick. She should be self-reliant, or poverty will attend her marriage.
